Welcoming a New Baby Part (2)

baby5 289x300 Welcoming a New Baby Part (2)“When it comes to your marriage and your children, there is enough love to go around. I like that my daughter has grown up with siblings. And I am old enough to see a day when I won’t be here and she really has a sister and brothers. Her children will have cousins.”

But a new baby can also create upheaval in your couple relationship. Up until now, you’ve remained a bit on the outside as the stepparent. You’ve let your husband take the lead in parenting his kids and have bitten your tongue more than once. But now, you have a baby that is part you and part him.

You don’t have to keep your mouth shut anymore if you see this child—or your husband—do something you don’t approve of. It’s critical that you and your husband communicate openly about how you’re going to parent your new child and how this will affect your role as a stepparent.
